Nestled in the mountainous Marcala region of La Paz, Honduras, this coffee is grown by smallholder farmers on rich volcanic soils and at high altitudes ideal for specialty-grade beans. Marcala is celebrated for clean, sweet, and well-structured coffees, and this SHG EP lot exemplifies the region’s meticulous standards. SHG (Strictly High Grown) indicates cultivation above 1,350 masl, where slower cherry maturation creates denser beans with enhanced flavor, while EP (European Preparation) ensures careful sorting to remove defects and produce a uniform, high-quality cup.

Farmers cultivate classic Central American varietals such as Caturra, Catuai, and Bourbon, contributing to the coffee’s balanced sweetness and bright, fruit-driven acidity. After hand-picking at peak ripeness, the cherries undergo a traditional washed process of pulping, controlled fermentation, thorough washing, and slow drying on patios or raised beds. The resulting cup offers layers of caramel and milk chocolate, lifted by citrus notes of lime, tangerine, and red apple, with a syrupy body and mellow finish.
